The Ski Clothes You and Your Children should wear

Keeping warm and your body dry are both essential out on the mountain. You never know when the weather might change so having the right kit is vital!

As you have read in our Maximising Bodyheat page, layering is the secret to staying warm and dry. Here we cover the various items of clothing required for a great day's skiing. It is important to buy clothing that fits properly, otherwise the whole family will suffer.

Children's Ski Clothes Thermal Underwear - The first layer needs to soak up sweat and must not cause any irritation. Long underwear or tights are ideal to keep you and your children warm and dry. Thermals from £17.00

Socks - Quality mixed fibre socks should help keep the feet warm and prevent blisters. If you or your child are prone to cold feet, a pair of thin polyester mix socks underneath your ski socks can help. Make sure they are smoothed down to avoid chances of blistering. Socks from £9.00

Fleeces and Microfleeces - For an extra layer of insulation, that allows moisture to escape and helps to maintain dry skin.

Outerwear - To stay warm and dry it's important to dress in layers and the outer layer should be windproof. Ski suits are ideal for keeping out the wind and keeping warmth in!

Helmets & Hats - As up to 70% of your body heat escapes through your head a good well fitting hat or helmet is essential. Check with your resort, some are not allowing children on the slopes without a helpmet, and in Italy it is mandatory to wear one if you are under 14 years old.

Masque - On very cold days a masque keeps the face warm and prevents the cheeks and lips from chapping. Another option is a neck chube, although this can make your goggles steam up because there are no air holes for your breath to escape from. A good quality high factor sunscreen should be applied underneath the masque or chube to maintain moisture in the skin. Balaclava Buffs  from £14.00

Childrens microfleeces in various coloursChildrens gloves and mittens

Gloves & Mittens - Hands also need covering up. Young children and beginners whose hands feel the cold are better off wearing a mitten with a lining glove which allows for easy finger movement to keep hands warm. Mittens are generally warmer in extremely cold conditions. Gloves & Mittens   from £13.00

Goggles & Sunglasses Goggles are a must you never know what the weather is going to do, sunglasses can be optional. Do remember to apply suncream under the goggles, so that you don't end up with red panda eyes because you lapped up the sun at lunch-time!
Goggles from £13.00
